Due to several factors you may get chapped and dry lips whether it is due to the winter, heavy summer or extra added pollution in the ambience.

Lips don’t possess any oil or sweat glands and the regular exposure to chemicals in the food, beverages or cosmetic products they are more prone to other problems. So, try applying the lip balm with the balancing moisturizers, wear a sunscreen and protect yourself. Caring lips doesn’t end with the external application of balms but prolongs with the internal care too, eat large amounts of fruits and veggies which help your lips and body to stay moisturized.

Go with a lip balm

To protect your lips from the environmental pollution damage and weather conditions apply lip balm before you going out. Search for the lip balm that is having vitamin E and sufficient moisturizing agents like shea butter and jojoba oil. Some of the lip balms are coming with SPF 6 or more they also work perfect to shield your lips from the harmful agents.

Some kind of lip balms are harmful, don’t go with a balm that is having salicylic acid, it acts great for the acne medication but serves problems to lips. You also need to stay away from fragrances, camphor, menthol and other soapy ingredients.

Don’t lick your lips

It is a common thing we all do when we suspect our lips at the stage of dry, licking makes the lips cool down but it is not a perfect choice to opt as the saliva you used for making the lips wet may contain enzymes that help the food to digest and they are harsh towards the sensitive lips.

Similarly one habit you need to change to protect your lips is – stop inhaling air through mouth as lips got affected with the kind of air that you inhale. You can stop this harm by breathing through nose.

Drink plenty of water

When you are dehydrated, lips will become dry, which leads to chapped lips. Drinking great amount of water will make the body stay hydrated and moisturized.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is a simple process of removing the dead skin cells, exfoliating lips with the use of soft brush can help to remove out the dead skin cells present in the lips. This step makes your lips healthy and rejuvenating.

Eat fruits and veggies

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, they contain loads of vitamins that are necessary for the health of lips and body.

Avoid smoking

Cigarette smoking is a serious factor which contributing for the lips to turn in to black in color. People who are having the habit of smoking mostly feels dry lips. Along with cigarette, alcohol consumption also leads for the wrinkles and dryness over the lips. So, quit them to increase the appearance of your lips.

Use coconut oil

Coconut oil not oil heals cracked lips but also keeps them from going dry. Moreover, coconut oil is not as toxic as lip balms that are full of chemicals. So, make sure you apply coconut oil on the lips before going outside in the winter.

Watch your caffeine intake

Winter may seem just perfect for taking that extra, hot cup of coffee. However, it may dehydrate your lips and make them chap. So, instead of drinking coffee, make sure you drink an herbal tea that has been decaffeinated. This will help you hydrate your lips. So, make sure you watch what you take in.

Apply honey on your lips

When applied on the skin, honey will moisturise it naturally. You should consider applying honey on your lips. It will help you heal your cracked lips. Apply honey generously to your lips before you can go to sleep.

Apply Aloe Vera gel

Aloe Vera gel is packed with both healing as well as moisturising elements. Apply some Aloe Vera gel to the lips and let it remain there for some time. Afterwards, peel it off to see the difference.

Apply beeswax

If you would like to retain the moisture on your lips, try applying a combination of olive oil and beeswax. This will protect your lips and prevent them from chapping in the winter. However, do not overuse it. Apply only the right amount of this mixture on your lips.

Apply a paste of rose petals

Rose is known to have moisturising properties. Take a few petals of the rose flower and soak them in milk overnight. Grind the petals the next morning to make a fine paste out of them. Apply this paste on your lips every day before going out in the winter.

Take sufficient amounts of Vitamin B

Your lips may go dry for the lack of Vitamin B. Talk to your doctor so that you can identify the amount of Vitamin B present in your body. If it is lower than normal, he or she may recommend that you take Vitamin B capsules or foods that are rich in this vitamin like skim milk, Swiss cheese, eggs, tofu, red meat, and fortified cereals.

Massage your lips with ghee

Clarified ghee can make your lips soft and leaving it on the lips overnight will act as a way to naturally protect them.

Apply mashed papaya on your lips

Mash a ripe papaya so that a juicy paste is formed out of it. Apply this paste on your lips after lying down on a towel. Leave it on the lips for about ten to fifteen minutes. Papaya contains enzymes that are good for the health of the lips. It will soften the lips when you follow this home remedy every day.

Do not apply too much cream

Do not apply too much lip cream on the lips. The chemicals in it can damage the lips and make them go dry. Instead of lip creams, use natural ingredients on your lips, which will not only protect your lips but also keep them from going dry.

Use black tea home remedy

Dip a black tea bag in some warm water and place it on your lips. Press it for three to five minutes on your lips and this will automatically give your lips protection in the winter.

Candelilla wax home remedy

Ingredients

  • 4 teaspoons of Candelilla wax
  • 3 teaspoons of meadowfoam
  • 2 teaspoons of olive oil
  • 5 teaspoons of avocado butter
  • 3 teaspoons of dulse extract
  • 4 teaspoons of acai lip flavour

Method

Melt the meadowfoam and the Candelilla wax with some olive oil. Blend in the avocado butter when it has melted completely. Mix the ingredients till they have been combined thoroughly. Pour in the remaining extract. Stir once again. Take the balm that has been created and pour it into a container. Let it cool for some time. Once ready, apply it on your lips.

Peppermint lip balm

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of carrier oil
  • 8 drops of peppermint oil
  • 1 tablespoon of beeswax pellets

Method

Put the beeswax pellets and the carrier oil into a jar. Heat the ingredients together after sealing the jar till the ingredients melt. Remove the jar from the flame and add some peppermint oil to it. Allow it to cool and apply on your lips.

Nutrient rich lip balm

Ingredients

  • Coconut oil
  • Yellow beeswax
  • Vitamin E oil

Method

This recipe can help protect your lips in the winter. Heat the coconut oil and yellow beeswax together until they have melted. The use of a double boiler is recommended. Add the Vitamin E oil to the mixture. If you would like more of this lip balm, experiment with the same ingredients but in different quantities.

Cocoa butter lip balm

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa butter
  • 2 tablespoons of peppermint oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon of beeswax
  • 3-4 drops of Vitamin E oil

Method

Heat the butters and the wax until melted. Add the oils while it is still getting heated.Mix together and let the mixture cool in the jar to which you have transferred it. Apply on your lips before going to sleep.

Pumpkin spiced lip balm

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil

Method

Combine all the above mentioned ingredients. Once you have finished mixing them together, they will give you a natural lip balm that is a bit sticky yet effective. Apply the balm on your lips every night before going to sleep so that it will protect your lips.
