Homemade aftershave oils

There are loads of aftershave lotions and creams wandering in the market, but many men get affected by irritation and rashes due to their usage. If you are one among them and are trying to  don’t pour the money on those market products prepare the below home made aftershave oils. They are simple and easy because most of the ingredients are from your home.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is known to be a medical plant for its healing, soothing and rejuvenating properties. Take the gel from the aloe vera tentacle and apply on your shaven skin after the completion of shaving to calm down the burns, and to heal the cuts and wounds. As the gel is smooth and soft,  it easily spreads on the skin.


One of the easiest oil you can prepare in the home is cucumber aftershave oil. Add mint extract and water to the cucumber to get your cucumber aftershave oil.

Grind a small cucumber, 1/4 cup of mint extract and a cup of water in a blender and strain the solution from it. Pour it in a jar and store it in fridge.

Witch hazel extract

To prepare the witch hazel after shave, you need witch hazel extract, olive oil, water and herbs such as rosemary and lavender flowers.

Prepare a mixture from above ingredients and take it into a long neck jar. Leave the solution for two to three weeks and then strain the extract from it and use it as your aftershave oil.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is one of the most renowned home based aftershave remedy. Take the apple cider vinegar with your finger tips and apply directly on your shaven skin. To make it aromatic, you need to add a pinch of cinnamon and clove. Adding bay leaves to the apple cider vinegar gives you a strong smelling aftershave oil.

Tea tree oil

Another mixture which can ease the razor burns and cuts is tea tree oil and lavender oil. Mix the tea tree oil with lavender oil and apply on the skin after shaving to heal the burns and cuts. Instead of using lavender oil you can also mix any essential aromatic oils.

Bay Rum

Get bay rum and mix it with orange zest, cinnamon, a little amount of vodka and clove. You need to keep this mixture in a dark and cold place for about two to three weeks. After that time period, strain the solution by using a filter, pour it in a jar and use like your aftershave oil. Remember to extract the solution from the ingredients for three to four times until the extract completely separated.

Shea butter

The nuts from African shea tree are known well as shea nuts, these nuts are most famous due to their butter. Shea butter is in ivory colored butter that helps to cure the burns on the skin.  Take the shea butter in a bowl and refrigerate it until it becomes thick, use this hard solution as a bar on your shaven skin to heal and rejuvenate the skin.

Infused calendula aftershave oil

Calendula is known to soothe burns and it will make effective aftershave oil.


  • 2 tablespoons of calendula essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons of yarrow essential oil
  • 5 tablespoons of grape seed oil


Warm your oven by setting it to 200 degrees and shut it off. Make sure you pour all the oils into an oven safe dish. Make sure you mix all the oils before putting them in the oven for about four hours. After they have steeped, pour them into a jar. If you would like to make sure that the aftershave oil you have prepared has a long shelf life, store it in a cool place. You can even store it in a freezer.

Orange aftershave oil


  • 1/8th cup of coconut oil
  • 2/3rdcup of avocado butter
  • 3 – 4 drops of orange essential oil


You can either mix all these ingredients together in a blender or you could whip by hand to a delicious consistency. You may feel tempted to eat it but do not do so. Save it all up for applying to the face after a shave. Store in a cool place inside a jar.

Jojoba oil aftershave gel

Jojoba oil is said to sooth the skin after it is applied to it.


  • 1 litre of distilled water
  • 1/4th tablespoon of vegetable glycerin
  • 1/8th tablespoon of jojoba oil
  • 7 drops of cedar wood essential oil
  • 3 – 4 drops of Vitamin E oil


Add some jojoba oil, vegetable glycerine, cedar wood essential oil, and Vitamin E oil to a spray bottle. Fill the bottle almost halfway with some distilled water. Shake the bottle well.

Lavender oil aftershave oil


  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops of labdanum essential oil
  • 4 drops of neroli essential oil


Mix all the ingredients together well and shake it. Store in a half litre bottle. If you plan to store this mixture in room temperature, make sure you use it within 2 weeks’ time. However, if you are planning to store it in a refrigerator, you must use it within 6 months.

Peppermint aftershave gel

Peppermint is always soothing – whether to the throat when consumed or to the skin when applied on it.


  • 1/8th cup of peppermint essential oil
  • 1 to 2 cups of rubbing alcohol
  • 1/8th cup lavender essential oil
  • 1/4th cup glycerine
  • 1/16th cup eucalyptus essential oil
  • A spray bottle


Combine all the ingredients together, except the essential oils. Pour the essential oils in the mixture slowly and close the jar. Shake the jar thoroughly. Shake it once every day after you refrigerate it. Your aftershave is ready for use.

Chamomile aftershave oil

Chamomile is known to fight inflammation and soothe the skin.


  • 2 tablespoons of chamomile essential oil
  • 1/8th teaspoon of alum powder
  • 5 drops of carrot seed oil


Mix all the ingredients together and pour the mixture into a clean jar that has a tight fitting lid. Store the mixture in a dark place for about two weeks and strain off the liquid. Then, pour the new liquid into a new container. Use on the face after shaving.

Yarrow aftershave oil


  • 3 drops of yarrow oil
  • 6 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 1 drop of bay leaf oil
  • 4 drops of sage oil
  • 2 drops of peppermint oil
  • 1 tablespoon of glycerine


Mix all the ingredients together well and store in a jar that has a tight fitting lid. Use this aftershave oil regularly after shaving.

Red Mandarin aftershave gel


  • 1/4th cup of virgin coconut oil
  • 1/4th cup of avocado butter
  • 1/4th teaspoon of Vitamin E oil
  • 2 drops of Red Mandarin oil


Use a hand blender or whisk the ingredients well together with your hands. Store in a container that is airtight. Apply to your face after shaving.

Myrrh anti-inflammatory aftershave oil


  • ½ teaspoon of vegetable glycerine
  • 27 drops of myrrh essential oil
  • 10 drops of carrot seed oil


Mix all the ingredients together well. Before every use, make sure you shake the mixture well. If you are intending to store the aftershave oil at room temperature, make sure you use it within 2 weeks. If you are planning to refrigerate it, use it within six months’ time.

Beeswax aftershave gel

Beeswax is known to be extremely good for the skin and it can also help moisturise the skin.


  • 1/4th cup of coconut oil
  • 1/4th cup of olive oil
  • 2 teaspoon beeswax
  • 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops of melaleuca essential oil


Place the beeswax, olive oil, and coconut oil in a microwave safe dish. Heat for 20 seconds and then, try to heat it again for another 20 seconds or so. Do so until the beeswax has completely melted. Add the essential oils and Vitamin E oil to it. Put in a blender and combine or use a whisk to combine these ingredients. Pour the gel into a spray bottle and use after shaving.

Bergamot aftershave oil

Bergamot has skin friendly properties and is known to be very good for the skin.


  • 25 millilitres vodka
  • 3 drops of lime essential oil
  • 3 drops of bergamot essential oil
  • 3 drops of cedar wood essential oil


Pour the essential oils and the vodka into a bottle that has a tight fitting lid. Shake well. Leave the mixture in the bottle till it matures for about 24 hours. Before each use, shake the bottle well. Store in a cool, dark place if you want the mixture to last longer.
